Weekend Destinations: Elche Print E-mail
Sunday, 03 September 2006

MAHE in ElcheElche, just a short drive from Alicante, is probably the place to go from now until the 1st of November.

The reason for this date is their completely renovated Archaeological Museum, the MAHE, that exhibits and only temporarily (until November 1st, 2006) the famous DAMA DE ELCHE (Lady of Elche). The statue of the Lady, discovered in 1897, belongs to Madrid's Archaeological Museum and it is probably the most representative piece of work of the Iberian Art. A reason for all the Ilicitanos (Elche's inhabitants) to be proud and for you to do not miss the occasion!!!

THE MAHE
Fully renovated, it brings an impressive collection of historical and archaeological pieces and an enjoyable experience for both adults and children that can interact with many of their new installations.
MAHE, ElcheVenue: MAHE, Palacio de Altamira
Dates: Until November 1, 2006
Open Monday to Sunday, 10 am to 10 pm
Admission free.
For group bookings, please call 966 615 382

AND MUCH MORE
But Elche is also a wonderful city to stay outdoors. A walk around their Palmeral (Palm Tree Garden) is now a MUST. The garden has been declared by UNESCO as part of the World's Heritage.

On Sunday mornings there is usually open air theatre for children and many more activities.

Where to Stay...
If you are planning on making a true weekend of your visit to Elche, we strongly recommend you stay or enjoy the cuisine of El Huerto del Cura , a family run business with beautiful hotels immersed in luscious gardens and two fantastic restaurants; Els Capellans & La Taula.

Our last tip is to try and make your trip coincide with Elche's Medieval Festival. It takes place towards the end of October and it is probably the most famous and extensive one of the kind.

Celebrate DE ILICI A ELX 2006!! Visit Elche!!
